The City of Springdale faced several challenges in optimizing the traffic signals along Thompson St./Highway 71 B. The corridor experiences high, variable traffic volume due to the presence of two multinational corporations with large workforces, a freeway interchange, numerous businesses and several nearby schools. With InSync, the corridor’s traffic signals are now able to serve actual traffic demand which has resulted in significant improvements in stops, travel time and delay. “The improvements that we saw were far and beyond what we expected,” said Dub Janczys, signalization supervisor. “The response from the public and city leaders has been… very well-received, real supportive. If you drive the corridor, you see a change.” The InSync deployment also had the effect of reducing crashes on Thompson/71B by an astounding 30%.
